Tennis 2017

Posted on by jbradley

Welcome to Bishops Tennis – 2017.

It is with great pride and excitement that I take the tennis baton (racket) from Mr Theron. He has done an excellent job with tennis at the school and he has made my settling into the sport a lot easier.  With the tennis numbers filled up for the year, I am excited to see what the sport has to offer.  The boys seem eager to play and I am sure that, under the leadership (and great help) of Lloyd Wood, it will be another successful season.  Best of luck!

Inter-house Junior Singles 2016

Posted on by wtheron

The annual Inter-house Junior Singles competition took place on the 8th of November.  The wind made it tricky for the players but the boys showed skill and determination on the court.  The Charles King trophy was won by White House who beat Mallett in the final by 12-2.  Congratulations to Oliver Diggle and Robert Ferreira who are both in grade 8.

Bishops versus Hilton

Posted on by wtheron

On Friday, 2 September, Bishops hosted a group of 12 boys from Hilton College in KZN.  Gusty winds made it difficult on court but forced the players to think strategically about their game plan.  The 1st team lost 8-4 but the 2nd and 3rd team won convincingly with a 10-2 and 8-4 victory.  Bishops won overall with a final score of 22-14.  IMG_20160902_224151 IMG_20160902_171205 IMG_20160902_163834 IMG_20160902_163751

UK Tennis Tour 2016

Posted on by wtheron

On the 23rd of June 10 tennis players accompanied by Mr Theron and Mr Fawcett flew to England for two weeks.  The team’s first stop was King’s Canterbury and thereafter they traveled through the south of England.  They played 9 fixtures, a mix of singles and doubles, and won 8 out of their 9 matches.  The team spent three days in London during the middle of the tour having some time to explore and relax.  They had the privilege to play on grass, synthetic clay as well as Australian Open surfaces.  The hospitality and facilities of hosting schools were unforgettable and the team grew in skill while gaining enormously in experience. IMG_20160706_190610 IMG_20160630_134722 IMG_20160628_161545 Tonbridge IMG_20160702_184747 nadal

OD Tennis 2016

Posted on by wtheron

On Friday, 11 March, we had our annual Founders Day OD tennis match.  There were six OD teams and five boys’ teams.  The boys triumphed with 102 games over 78 games.  Thanks to everyone who was involved.  It was a great day of tennis and a reminder that tennis is a lifelong sport.
