The Bishops cycling team along with staff, moms and dads descended on the sleepy hollow of Caledon to partake in the Staalwater MTB race. The weather conditions were superb with blue skies and a light breeze. Although most riders entered for the 35km route (which ended up being 42km), Mr Drury and Michael Byron tackled the 60km (2h 46min) course which boasted 10km of singletrack. Well done to Enrica van der Linden for taking part in her first MTB race. Let’s hope the bug has bitten.
It was great to have some of the Junior riders on the day competing in their first 35km ride. Well done to James Shuttleworth, Aedan Foulkes and Nicholas Pearce who all had a great ride.
In particular congratulations must go to Stefan Dominicus for clinching a 3rd place in the Junior Men with a super time of 1 hour 40min.Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment September 7, 2014

The Bishops MTB team rode in the 3rd Spur MTB league race in Somerset West on Saturday 9 August. The conditions were perfect and Meurant Botha of Amarider has built a stunning 3km course.
The juniors had to complete 4 laps and the Seniors 6. Although we did not manage a podium finish, Alexander Rohrer managed 14 place overall in the 17-18 year old category.
This was an important learning curve for the team and training is underway in anticipation of the next race in Stellenbosch on 30 August.

On cycling vice-captain, Chris Viljoen’s 18th birthday, we took the junior riders to Meerendal to enjoy the pump tracks and some ‘epic’ single track.Uncategorized | Leave a comment April 13, 2014
I got to ride Willie van der linden’s new Specialized Epic Expert at Meerendal and what a great bike it is. I was impressed by the stable riding platform that the bike provided and felt my confidence grow as I became more familiar with the handling. The bike is very forgiving and stuck to the track like glue. The XTR gears are super-smooth and although the bike is a mish-mash of different components which might upset the purist (SRAM mixed with Shimano mixed with Magura? Shudder!!!) everything worked really well.

The Team had a great time on Sunday 13 April riding parts of the Epic prologue trail. The pump track was also amazing. Pity about Chris’ sidewall damage though. Here are one or two highlights:
